| | sad | ] | RIP Ian Loveday also known as EON, the legendary British techno producer of "Spice" and "Fear: The Mindkiller". He was the person that originally inspired me to start buying 12" records and start DJing. Died June 17th from complications with pneumonia.

One of the nice things about the global economic climate appears to be the shift away from megaglobalomnicorp shopping, as Circuit City has closed and there are now rumors that Borders will be next. Have we seen the end of the "over store" syndrome? Do we really need eight Home Depot stores in Rhode Island?
I hope this means a return to mom'n'pop type shops which are sooo much more satisying to shop at than faceless mega corporations. When you deal with places like home depot, best buy etc. Big box companies are full of people who don't give a damn about the company, and rightly so. |

| Minimal Effort Blog |
[Mar. 24th, 2009|09:15 pm] |
I started a music blog to share some obscure bargain bin records that I find in my crate digging travels. I've actually had it going for a few months now, but kept it quiet until I had some content there. Check it out, and if you like it, subscribe via the orange RSS link at the bottom of the page. I'm going to try to update it at least once a week.
Anyway, let me know what you think!! http://minimaleffort.org

| Job hunting |
[Mar. 18th, 2009|05:10 pm] |
I HATE when you are applying for a job online and as part of the application process they force you to select an amount of money that you want to be paid. There's no way to write "negotiable" or anything like that. You have to choose something. The question is, do you choose the bare minimum you would accept or do you choose what you actually think the job is worth, knowing that of course you may price yourself out of the position.

| DJ Mix "Building Steam" |
[Feb. 25th, 2009|07:18 am] |
If you want to listen, here's a rip of the 3 hour 20 minute internet DJing session I did yesterday on interstatefm.com. Starts off slow and gradually builds up the tempo from modern cosmic disco to eventually techno with a few electro tracks thrown in. Note: There is about 20 seconds of silence at the beginning, and a couple of skips in the audio during the first few tracks as I sorted out my internet connection.

| Surfin' Dead |
[Feb. 5th, 2009|11:06 am] |
RIP Lux Interior, lead singer of The Cramps. Time to blow the dust off of my copy of "Bad Music For Bad People".
"Now life is short and it's filled with stuff So let me know baby when you've had enough Oh do the dead, turn blue Yeah the surfin' dead, as dead as you There's nothing on the radio when you're dead There's nothing at the movie show when you're dead There's nowhere left for you to go when you're dead Do the dead, yeah do the dead Do the dead, surfin' dead" |

| The Great American Smoke-out |
[Jan. 20th, 2009|07:01 pm] |
For the 2nd time since we moved in i've managed to completely fill my basement with smoke. We have a wood burning stove in our basement that unfortunately suffers from a very bad downdraft, which causes it to pull cold air down the chimney and blow the smoke out the front of the stove, into the house. When this happens, it fills the entire basement with thick acrid smoke, and it sucks.
It's very hard to actually use the stove because I have to sit on the floor and blow a hair-dryer up the stove and hope that I can get an updraft going, then get the fire statred before it reverses. |
